Mustang Monday Color of the Week - Basic Gray

Welcome to my first Mustang Monday post. I'm sure your wondering what does paper crafting have to do with Mustangs… Well, let me try to explain. My favorite of all cars is the Mustang. And, since I am so totally not into mechanics or getting all greasy (I'd much rather get inky), I am going to look at the cosmetic side of cars - their paint job! There were 770 offerings of paint in all 52 production years of the Mustang. That's quite a lot of colors! So it stands to reason that one could probably closely match the colors in the Stampin' Up! palette with at least one of those 770 Mustang colors.

My goal with the Mustang Monday posts is to focus my paper crafting on one color per week and introduce you to some really cool color combinations. Hopefully we will learn a little about color in the process. We won't delve too deeply into color theory but feel free to youtube the subject if you aren't familiar with color theory - it does help with making pleasant looking cards but the scope is just too vast for this blog.

Every post will begin with a different color of Mustang as a color focus for the week. From there we will jump to the Color Coach tool provided by Stampin' Up! and explore the variety of color combinations we can come up with using our Mustang color.

This week's Mustang Monday focus will be on Basic Gray. Just take a look at the awesome image I found! What amazing inspiration! I'm pretty sure most of you will recognize this car as the 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 Eleanor car. Isn't she just awe inspiring!

I did a little studying to find out some interesting facts about Eleanor. Did you know that "Gone in 60 Seconds" (the one we all know and love with Eleanor, Nicholas Cage, and Angelina Jolie) was not an original movie? It was actually a remake of a 1974 independent film by H.B. Halicki which wasn't all that great. He originally used a 1971 Mustang Sportsroof restyled to wear a 1973 grille because it took Halicki 3 years to raise enough money to begin filming. Gotta love Mustang history… there's plenty of it out there.
Basic Gray

Basic Gray is a member of the Neutrals color collection. Neutrals are very versatile colors because they work well as both a main color and as an accent color.

Using a neutral color with two strong colors can help tone down your overall design and prevent the viewer from feeling overpowered by too much color.

In addition, using neutrals as a main color can increase the emphasis and intensity of accent colors you choose.

The color coach tool shows that Basic Black and Basic Gray are a dynamic duo. That's what Stampin' Up! calls a monochromatic color scheme. Monochromatic projects are probably the most popular and easiest to design. According to our color coach, dynamic duos make the best two-step stampin' images however, not all Stampin' Up! colors have a dynamic duo.

This color combo really pops - Rich Razzleberry, Basic Gray and Basic Black
I hope you have enjoyed my first Mustang Monday post and learned a little about the color coach and how neutral colors can affect other colors. Stay tuned as later today, I will be issuing our first ever Mustang Monday color challenge!

Disclaimer:  I am a new Stampin' Up! demonstrator.  I am working on replacing all my craft supplies with only Stampin' Up! product, but I will occasionally use some of my non-SU stash. Bare with me as I work to replenish my stash with only SU product. I will be highlighting new products as they come in and I will always point out great alternatives to my non-SU product that are Stampin' Up!. Thanks for understanding.
